Summer is a great time to network. As a business owner or salesperson I am sure you are already attending the local mixers put on by the Chambers and other professional groups. If you’re not, you definitely need to get started. Summer events like Artown and backyard BBQs give you many opportunities to network also. Remember that networking is simply connecting with people who you can do business with directly or who can be a referral source. When meeting people you know ask them how business is and what kinds of leads they are looking for. Then think about your list of contacts and see if anyone you know might need their services. Referring leads to others almost always results in referrals back to you. After chatting about family and summer activities if this person is someone you need to develop a better business relationship with, ask them to meet for coffee or offer to bring them coffee at their office. When you get there learn as much about their business as possible. Figure out something you can do to help them generate leads or solve a problem. Next thing you know they will be doing the same for you. Happy summer networking.
