You’ll find it a bit bewildering that every company on earth hasn’t figured this out, especially business owners and salespeople. Unfortunately, like a lot of other common sense ideas, that is the case.
When employees are out visiting customers or networking they should be walking advertisements for your company. That starts with being identified immediately as working for your company. The simplest, most cost effective way to do this is to design a good looking magnetic name badge with the company logo and the employee’s name. Don’t scrimp, make them nice with heavy duty magnets and be sure they are a good size so the company logo is proudly displayed and the person’s name can be read from 2 feet away. Then, go hog wild and buy everyone at least two badges so they can keep one in their office and one in their car and always have one handy.
Wearing this badge will mean that everyone knows their name and knows your company is visiting when they are at a client location or working with a prospect. When they are networking they can avoid those stuck on name tags that ruin their clothes and have their name scribbled illegibly on them. People who would like to meet them can approach them with ease. When they approach others the tag announces them and your company.
Teach everyone to wear the name badges on their right side, just below the shoulder. This helps lead a person’s eyes directly to it when shaking hands.
You can order the badges locally at any custom promotions shop or online – but, I encourage you to buy local. The cost will be less than $10 per person. If budget is a concern, give employees the first two badges. If they lose them, you can charge them for the next one.
Proud employees will want to wear their name badge everywhere. And, what does it tell you if they don’t???
